Michael Tirrell is a ceramics artist whose work reflects a life rich in exploration and intention. As a former consultant and journalist, he is passionate about ideas and meaningful storytelling. In working with clay, he has found a quiet and thoughtful voice — using his hands and focused on form.
Michael has trained at some of the most respected pottery studios in Maine, Connecticut, and New York — as well as at the legendary Leach Pottery in Cornwall, England, where East meets West in ceramics tradition.
His work is grounded in simplicity, guided by modernism, and shaped by instinct. Each piece is a meditation — on balance, texture, stillness, and the understated beauty of simple glazes. For Michael, ceramics invites a quiet reflection in an overly noisy world.
Michael divides his time between New York City and two places of deep inspiration: a 200-year-old farmhouse nestled in the quiet hills east of the Connecticut River, and a serene coastal village in midcoast Maine. In both, the rhythm of the seasons, the rugged beauty of the landscape, and the poetry of daily life find their way into my work.
