Modern Ceramics - Rooted in Tradition - Handcrafted in New England
Michael Tirrell is a ceramics artist whose work reflects a life rich in exploration and intention. As a former consultant and journalist, Michael is passionate about ideas and meaningful storytelling. And now he has found a quiet and thoughtful voice — working clay with his hands and focused on form.
Michael has trained at some of the most respected pottery studios in New York, Maine, and Connecticut — as well as at the legendary Leach Pottery in Cornwall, England, where East meets West in ceramics tradition.
His work is grounded in simplicity, guided by modernism, and shaped by instinct. Each piece is a meditation — on balance, texture, stillness, and the understated beauty of simple glazes. Michael’s ceramics often invite quiet reflection in a noisy world.
Michael divides his time between two places of deep inspiration: a 200-year-old farmhouse nestled in the quiet hills east of the Connecticut River, and the serene coastal village of Bayside, Maine. In both, the rhythm of the seasons, the rugged beauty of the landscape, and the poetry of daily life find their way into his work.
